IMPORTANT!
To properly install the wheel lugs, the torque must be set to the recommended specification for your vehicle.
These specifications can be found in your vehicle’s shop manual or obtained from your vehicle dealer.
Using an accurate torque wrench, tighten the lugs with a crisscross sequence as shown below until they reach their proper torque value.
NOTE: Over-tightening can cause the following.
(1) Striped lug nut
(2) Stretched wheel stud
(3) Broken wheel stud
(4) Distorted brake rotor and/or brake drum.
After installing new wheels, they should be re-torqued after the first 80 to 160 kilometres. This is necessary as wheels may compress slightly, allowing their lugs to loosen some of their torque.
NOTE: Since the thickness of an alloy wheel can differ from Original Equipment wheels, you should verify the number of threads engaged by the lug nuts or bolts. Refer to the chart (above) to determine the number of turns or the depth of engagement typical for your stud or bolt size.
